Liu Qi, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, met in Beijing Wednesday with former leader of the Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ) Katsuya Okada.
Liu spoke highly of the efforts and contribution of the DPJ and Okada to developing China-Japan relations, saying that taking a right attitude toward history issue is related to the political foundation of China-Japan relations, and is the consensus of the international community.
The healthy and stable development of China-Japan relations accords with the fundamental interests of the two countries and the two peoples, and is also conducive to the peace, prosperity and stability of the region and the world at large, Liu said.
In line with the notion of taking history as a mirror and facing toward future and with the basic principles of the three political documents between China and Japan, the two sides should further enhance exchanges and cooperation in various fields, resolve problems through dialogue, and achieve peaceful coexistence, friendship for generations, cooperation with mutual benefits and common development.
Okada and his delegation was scheduled to pay the visit to China from Nov. 15 to 19 at the invitation of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee.
