    Bronzewares excavated from tomb of Warring States Period

    An archeologist gives treatment to a chime bell excavated from a tomb of State of Chu in Henan on Nov 17. A number of bronzewares such as chime bells, cooking vessels have been excavated from a tomb of State of Chu in central China's Henan Province recently. The tomb is 25 meters long, 17 meters wide and 18 meters deep. Experts say the tomb owner might be a high-ranking nobleman of the State of Chu who lived in early Warring States Period.

    2nd China Int'l Rescue Team returns home

    Cut-price laptop unveiled for students

    Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) researchers unveiled a US$100, hand-cranked laptop computer on the World Information Society in Tunis Nov 16. The laptop is about the size of a textbook and operates at 500 MHz, about half the processor speed of commercial laptops. The charity organizations and governments will send them for free to impoverished schoolchildren in developing countries.

    China's first sea-spanning bridge ready for traffic

    China's first sea-spanning bridge - Shanghai East China Sea Bridge - is ready to open to traffic in Shanghai November 17, 2005. The bridge, 32.5 kilometers long, is said to be able to endure Force 12 typhoons. It will open to service soon. The bridge links up Shanghai's Nanhui District with a county in Zhejiang Province.     Association of Muslim Scholars shows pictures of abused detainees

    Abdul Salam Al-Kubaisi, media offcial of the Association of Muslim Scholars, shows a picture of a detainee abused in the secret prison of Iraqi interior ministry during a news conference in Baghdad, capital of Iraq on Nov. 17, 2005. More than 170 Iraqi detainees, most of who were Sunni Arabs, were malnourished at an Iraqi Interior Ministry detention center. Iraqi and US officials have admitted that some of the detainees appeared to have been abused and tortured.
