China's second rescue team to treat Pakistanis injured in the recent earthquake returned to Beijing Thursday after 20 days of hard work.
A senior Pakistani diplomat, who attended a welcoming ceremony at Beijing's Capital International Airport, praised and thanked the Chinese rescuers for their efforts to deepen the traditional friendship between the two countries.
During their stay in Pakistan, the Chinese medical workers set up a field hospital and sent doctors to treat injured people and carry out epidemic prevention in the earthquake-devastated areas.
Over 2,000 Pakistanis received medical assistance from the Chinese doctors and nurses. The Chinese medical workers also helped train local medical staff.
Before its return, the 38-member rescue team sent its tents, medicine and materials to Pakistani troops at the request of the local government and people. The Pakistani troops will continue use the field hospital for rescue work.
The team, comprising 22 medical staff from the Chinese People's Armed Police, eight professional rescuers, and eight technical assistants, carried out its rescue work in Balakot, Pakistan, since October 29.
Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf paid a site visit to the Chinese rescuers during their stay.
