The first insurance service for human bird flu disease within China began its operation last week in east China's Anhui Province.
Clients only need pay a premium of 100 yuan (about 12 US dollars). The maximum insured amount is 200,000 yuan (about 25,000 US dollars). Once a policyholder is infected by the H5N1 bird flu virus, he can get the whole amount immediately.
The provider is Sinosafe Insurance Company. According to the Anhui Provincial Branch, their human bird flu insurance service is the first in China. And it was approved by the China Insurance Regulatory Commission on November 2 for a term of one year.
All Chinese citizens between 3 and 70 can take out a policy.
This service is limited to insure against H5N1 bird flu only. The Sinosafe Insurance Company has promised to donate five percent of the premium revenue to local epidemic prevention institutions.
