New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg is ranked among the most charitable Americans, according to a survey released Saturday.
The mayor ranks 13th on a Business Week survey of the most generous philanthropists in the country. The mayor has donated 528 million dollars over the past five years. He gave 139 million dollars last year alone, according to the survey.
With his personal fortune estimated at 6 billion dollars, Bloomberg is definitely among the wealthiest in the United States.
While the mayor does not publicize details on the amount of his donations, he lists 843 charities that have received donations, including many throughout the city.
The day after he won re-election, the mayor said after his second term is up, he will not run for higher office, but will concentrate on his philanthropy.
This year, Bill Gates and his wife Melinda are no longer the top givers. Gordon Moore, a confounder of Intel Corporation, and his wife now donate the most.
