First skull fossils have been discovered from excavations in Wushan county near the Three Gorges area. If age of the fossils could be detected, mystery of East Asian origins will be unveiled, according to Huang Wanpo, professor of Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology, Chinese Academy of Sciences.
Professor Huang confirmed that the skull fossils unearthed are not at the same age with those of Wushan man.
If the skull fossil could be proved at 60,000 to 20,000-30,000 years old, the discovery may change East Asian human origin history and the world will be excited about the finding, said the professor.
Those skull fossils will be sent to the US for age identification. Result is expected to be revealed next year.
The fossils unearthed also include an old person's incisor, a 2-year old kid's skull and an adult's thighbone, some animal fossils are also unearthed.
However, most of the fossils were abraded and some are not complete, only forehead and hindbrain are left, said the professor.
