A joint venture of Samsung Electronics Co. of South Korea and Sony Corp. of Japan announced Tuesday it will spend 100 billion South Korean won (96 million US dollars) to expend its advanced liquid crystal display (LCD) production line.
The S-LCD Corporation, mainly manufacturing of amorphous TFT LCD panels for LCD TVs, is hoped to increase its production capacity from 60,000 panels to 75,000 panels per-month from July 2006 with the fresh investment, said a news release issued by Samsung Electronics.
"The decision to expand the production facility was made due to increasing market demand for LCD panels for TVs," said the news release, adding the capital will be raised by S-LCD itself.
Samsung and Sony launched the joint venture in South Korea in April this year to give Sony a steady supply of flat screens for televisions and computers.
