Chinese supplier enters Vodafone global procurement system
font size

Chinese telecommunications equipment supplier Huawei Group and Vodafone, the UK-based cellphone giant, have signed a procurement agreement, said sources of the Chinese company in Shenzhen Wednesday.

Huawei is the first Chinese company enlisted in Vodafone's global procurement list and also the fifth Vodafone communications equipment supplier in the world.

"Under the agreement, Huawei is expected to provide solutions and equipment of 3G to Vodafone, concerning prices and services," said Fu Jun, a spokesman with Huawei.

Vodafone spends 5 billion US dollars on procurement, which means Huawei enjoys a privilege in Vodafone's huge global procurement system, said Fu.

By now, Huawei's sales of mobile communication equipment has amounted to over 50 percent of the company's total sales this year. Its contract with Vodafone will bring new momentum to its business.

Huawei, founded in 1988 in south China's Shenzhen City, has been in business contact with 90 countries and regions. Prior to this, it had been designated a provider to the British telecommunications company BT Group, according to sources with Huawei.

Vodafone, the biggest international mobile phone operator, offers mobile communication services to more than 171 million subscribers, covering 27 countries and regions.
