The Ministry of Defense of Nepal said Saturday that the guerrillas are continuing with their atrocities despite the unilateral cease-fire that they have declared earlier.
"The guerrillas are continuing with their atrocities like killing innocent and unarmed people, carrying out violence, abductions and looting," the ministry said in a statement.
According to the ministry, a group of suspected guerrillas took under control three passenger vehicles at Paurahi Area of Rautahat district, some 200 km south of Kathmandu, on Thursday night and looted goods and property worth 150,000 Nepali rupees (2,142 US dollars).
The ministry also stated that the guerrillas abducted a teacher from a school at Rankhu area in Baglung district, some 400 km west of Kathmandu, on Tuesday and abducted policeman Shiva Yadav, who was unarmed, from his house at Tarapatti in Dhanusha district, some 200 km south of Kathmandu, on Nov. 20.
Meanwhile, 16 persons from Parsa district, some 200 km south of Kathmandu, who had been involved in guerrillas' activities in the past surrendered before the authorities in favor of leading a peaceful life on Monday.
The guerrillas declared a unilateral truce on Sept. 3 for three months with immediate effect.
Over 12,000 Nepalese people have been killed since the anti- government insurgency broke out in the Himalayan kingdom in February 1996.
