Harbin resumed the supply of water pumped from the Songhuajiang River at 6 pm (1000 GMT) Nov. 27. The city cut water supply Nov. 23 after the Songhuajiang River, its major water source, was polluted because of blasts Nov. 13 at a chemical plant in neighboring Jilin Province. According to an information from the Heilongjiang Provincial Environmental Protection Bureau, no benzene was found and the density of nitrobenzene stood at 0.0034 milligrams per liter, lower than the state standard of 0.017 milligrams per liter, at the Sifangtai water pumping site on the Harbin section of the Songhuajiang River at 2 pm (0600 GMT) Nov. 27.
