font size

Leaders of various political parties have said that it is impossible for the political parties to work in collaboration with the anti-government guerrillas as some of the political leaders have been repeatedly overlooking their public commitments.

Communist Party Nepal-Unified Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML), the biggest party in Nepal, Standing Committee member Pradeep Nepal expressed here on Tuesday the view that the terrorism adopted by the guerrillas is bound to fail eventually.

Central member of Nepali Congress (NC), the second leading party, Arjun Narsingh made it clear that NC is not in favor of the republic now, adding that the party approves reinstating the parliament to give the political outlet to the nation.

General Secretary of Janamorcha Nepal Newaraj Subedi said that in view of the geographical and existing political circumstances of the country, none of the international representatives, including the United Nations, should be given access to interfere in matters concerning Nepal.

He stated that the representatives of his party and other political parties signed the recent so-called 12-point letter of understanding with the guerrillas at their own will.

The Election Commission (EC) of Nepal decided on Tuesday to register 17 more of the political parties that had applied for being registered at the EC for the upcoming municipal elections.

With this the total number of parties officially registered at the EC have reached 56.

A total of 72 political parties had applied for registration at the EC to take part in the municipal elections scheduled for Feb. 8,2006.

Last municipal elections took place in 1997.
