France still sees agreement with Iran possible
font size

French Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin said Tuesday in an interview with US television network CNN that an agreement with Iran on its nuclear plans is possible if the country accepts European proposals.

"I think that there is a deal possible, there is an offer that has been made by the Europeans and I think it is in the interests of the international community, in the interests of Iran, to accept these proposals," Villepin said in English.

Iran broke in August its promise with the European troika ( France, Great Britain and Germany) to suspend uranium enrichment activities.

"We have made an offer. And Iran has decided to resume the enrichment of uranium, and I think it is very important now today to put pressure on Iran to make sure that they accept this offer," said Villepin.

"If they don't accept, then we will have to go to the (United Nations) Security Council," he added.

As to possible sanction against Iran that will be decided by the United Nations, Villepin said "there is one key factor of diplomacy: never tell what you will do before."
