"Taiwan independence" forces have never ceased their secessionist activities and combating "Taiwan independence" will remain an important task facing Chinese all over the world for some time to come, a visiting Chinese government official said in New York Tuesday.
Wang Zaixi, a deputy director of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council of China, told a seminar on Sino-US relations and the Taiwan issue that there has been an easing of cross-Straits tensions and more positive factors to check the development of secessionist activities.
But Wang pointed out that the Taiwan authorities have not given up their attempts to split Taiwan away from China and "Taiwan independence" forces have never ceased their secessionist activities.
Therefore, combating and checking "Taiwan independence" forces will remain an important task facing all Chinese, compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Straits included, for some time to come, he said.
Wang urged the Taiwan authorities to accept the one-China principle and acknowledge the "1992 consensus" so that cross-Straits dialogue and negotiations could be resumed at anytime.
He also called on Chinese all over the world to work harder and make unremitting efforts toward the grand goal of achieving reunification of the motherland in the 21st century.
