Nepal to hold tourism, industrial festival

Tourism and industrial festivals will be organized next week in far-western region of Nepal in order to promote local business, organizer said Kathmandu Thursday.

"Kanchanpur Tourism Festival and Far-western Industrial Trade Festival will be organized on Dec. 9-15 at Mahendranagar town of Kanchanpur district, some 800 km west of Kathmandu," said Shankar Bahadur Chand, president of Kanchanpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), a non-governmental organization of Nepal.

The tourism festival aims to promote tourism through publicity of local tourism destinations in the region, Chand noted, adding, "The trade festival aims promoting export of the goods being produced in the region area."

The local region is the home of tourist destinations including Shai Shuklapant Wildlife Conservation Area, Khaptad National Park,Karnali River, Jhimila, Ghodaghodi and Bedkot lake, ancient Sinddhanath, Baijanathdam, Gahtaldham and Sokatdham, Api and Saipal Himalayas, Chand said.

The export industries in the region have huge potentials because of good roads and New Delhi, the capital of India, is just seven hours far from the town, Chand noted.

Export Promotion Committee of the Nepali government, Federation of Nepalese Chamber of Commerce and Industries, the largest non-government federal organization of Nepal, and KCCI were the organizers of the festival, he added.
