Israeli F16 warplanes fired at midnight on Saturday two rockets at opened areas in northern Gaza Strip in retaliation to firing three homemade rockets at Israel, Palestinian security sources and witnesses reported.

The witnesses said that the Israeli warplanes flew over Gaza City and fired at least two rockets at an area north of the town of Beit Lahia, causing two huge explosions and leaving two deep wholes in the area.

The security sources said that firing the F16 rockets at northern Gaza Strip was a retaliation to earlier homemade rockets attacks carried out by Palestinian militants, who launched three rockets from northern Gaza at southern Israel.

An Israel army spokeswoman said that the three rockets landed at an empty area not far from the city of Ashkelon in southern Israel, adding that no injuries had been reported.

No one claimed responsibility for the homemade rockets attack on Israel. However, militants of al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, Palestinian ruling Fatah movement's armed wing, claimed responsibility for firing another rocket at Kfar Azza, east of Gaza Strip.

Israel Radio reported that one Israeli citizens in Kfar Azza was lightly injured, adding that the Israeli army artillery fired several shells at the area where the rocket was launched from.
