Indonesia's House of Representatives (DPR) Speaker Agung Laksono expressed support for President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono's plan to reshuffle his cabinet in an effort to improve the government's performance.
"A cabinet reshuffle is the president's prerogative right and of course it should be supported by the parliament. Because so far, the president's aides have yet to show maximum performance," the Antara news agency on Sunday quoted Agung as saying.
Last Friday, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono named former finance minister Boediono as a candidate to fulfill a post in a reshuffled cabinet. He promised to announce the result of the shakeup within the next two or three days.
An evaluation of the cabinet's performance should cover all sectors, not only the economic and monetary sectors, Agung said on Saturday in Manado, capital of North Sualwesi province.
"Currently, the problem is in the economic and monetary fields but there must be a thorough evaluation and that will be the President's responsibility," Agung said.
Meanwhile, Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla expressed his support to president to name Boedion as a candidate of a reshuffled cabinet.
One of Kalla's aides said the vice president immediately supported Susilo's choice of Boediono, saying the market would accept the former finance minister's comeback.
