China exports more autos than its imports for first time

During the first ten months this year, China exported more autos than it imported for the first time, said the Ministry of Commerce on Monday.

During the ten months, China exported 135,000 vehicles, jumping 133.6 percent year on year, while importing 128,000 vehicles, down 11.6 percent, the ministry said.

China mainly exports commercial vehicles and imports passenger cars, according to the ministry.

Some 59 percent of autos exported from China are camions.

Of the total autos imported by China, 47.6 percent are sedans and 41.4 percent off-road vehicles.

The average price for each export auto is 8,336 US dollars, while that for each import auto is 29,180 US dollars, 2.5 times higher, according to the ministry.

China exports most of its cars to developing countries, like Syria, Algeria and Vietnam, and imports cars from developed countries including Japan, Germany and the United States.
