China will further alter administrative function of government and give priority to the role of social management and services, a Chinese official said Monday in Beijing.

"The purpose of mapping out the goal is designed to effectively meet the growing public demand," said Chen Fujin, vice president of the China National School of Administration, at the annual conference of the Network of Asia-Pacific Schools and Institutes of Public Administration and Governance (NAPSIPAG).

China will readjust its expenditure structure in order to increase the amount of government spending on education, public health and social security, he said.

"We will realize the goal that every citizen could enjoy fundamental public services they deserve," he said.

Chen said a series of basic medical services will be available for the old and the poor.

"Only when the Chinese government steadily improve its functions in social management and public services, can a sound basis be laid for the long-term process of building a harmonious society in China," he said.

The NAPSIPAG conference has attracted about 200 representatives from 24 countries and regions in the Asia-Pacific region.
