Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated his Kazakh counterpart Nursultan Nazarbayev on his reelection as president during a telephone conversation on Monday.
"Putin warmly and cordially congratulated Nazarbayev on his convincing victory in Sunday's presidential elections in Kazakhstan and expressed his best wishes to the multiethnic people of Kazakhstan," the Kremlin press service said.
The two heads of state expressed their determination to continue developing and strengthening the neighborly relations and strategic partnership between Russia and Kazakhstan, it said.
Nazarbayev, 65, won a landslide reelection for another seven-year term with 91 percent of the vote in Sunday's election, according to preliminary results from the Kazakh Central Election Commission.
Nazarbayev has been the country's president since 1991.
