font size

Total number of subscribers of Beijing Netcom, Beijing Telecom, Beijing Mobile and Beijing Unicom has for the first time exceeded 22 million. According to local taxation authorities, the four basic operators have turned over 1.5 billion yuan of taxes to the local taxation authorities from January to November, 663 million more than in the same period of last year. With a growth of 78.8 percent it has set a new record ever.

According to the municipal local taxation authorities, all of the four basic operator of Beijing telecom industry showed surging development trend in 2005. Until now Beijing Netcom has over 5.8 million registered users with Xiaolingtong, or "little smart", users topping 2 million and ADSL subscribers over 1.4 million. Beijing telecom boasts fixed-line telephone users of over 170,000 and Internet users of over 1.06 million. Beijing Mobile and Beijing Unicom each has mobile communications subscribers of over 12 million.

Insiders believe the steady growth of broadband ADSL users, multi-lateral cooperation among telecom operators and information service providers have gradually formed a new industrial chain in the telecom industry and they all contribute strongly to the growth of Beijing telecom industry.

Meanwhile, various telecom operators seized the opportunities brought about by the 2008 Olympic Games and launched broad strategic cooperation on the Olympic platform. Their new services have driven the comprehensive growth of Beijing communications business. For example, Beijing Netcom has begun to establish 2008 Olympics service system which integrates large clients, commercial clients and public clients in a hierarchical network.
