font size

Fifty Hong Kong permanent residents under custody in Macao's prison have applied to serve their remaining terms back in Hong Kong, local media reported on Tuesday.

The governments of the Hong Kong and Macao Special Administrative Regions on Dec. 1 launched a mutual arrangement that allows prisoners from either side to serve their prison terms in their respective home cities, the Macao Post Daily reported.

There are currently 108 Hong Kong prisoners being detained in Macao's prison, according to statistics issued by the Macao Security Forces.

Nine Macao permanent residents were imprisoned in Hong Kong as of November, according to the Macao Post Daily, which failed to inform that how many of the prisoners from Macao applied for the transfer.

There are 914 prisoners being jailed in the Macao Prison, the sole prison in the region.
