China urged the Malaysian side to properly handle the assault and humiliation of Chinese citizens in Malaysia, said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang in Beijing Tuesday.
Qin reiterated the Chinese government's position on the assault cases at a routine press conference, saying China hopes that the Malaysian side could conduct a thorough investigation on the cases and punish the involved offenders in accordance with law at an early date.
China has consulted with Malaysia on many occasions and voiced China's attitude towards the cases, Qin said, adding that Malaysia has time and again acknowledged to probe into the cases according to law, and the investigation is still being carried out.
China urged Malaysia to inform China of the final investigation result as soon as possible, Qin said.
China also hopes that the Malaysian side could take effective measures to avoid reoccurrence of such cases in future so as to ensure that the personal safety and property of those Chinese citizens who are traveling, working or studying in Malaysia are protected and their dignity would not be infringed, Qin said.
