Chinese FM spokesman on China, Japan, ROK relations
font size

China hopes relevant countries can make efforts to create the "climate" and "conditions" for the trilateral cooperation between China, Japan and the Republic of Korea (ROK), said Chinese FM spokesman Qin Gang in Beijing Tuesday.

Qin said China attaches importance to the cooperation and believes that it is an important part of East Asian cooperation.

"Due to some well-known reasons, the annual meeting of leaders of China, Japan and ROK has to be postponed to an appropriate time. It is what the Chinese side does not want to see," Qin said.

To strengthen trilateral cooperation is not only in the interests of the three countries, but also conducive to promoting East Asia cooperation, the spokesman said.

China will continue to fulfil its obligations as one of the three cooperating and coordinating nations, and make its own efforts to push forward trilateral cooperation, he added.

When asked to comment on Junichiro Koizumi's remarks claiming that he has freedom to visit Yasukuni Shrine, Qin said the Japanese prime minister has time and again visited the shrine regardless of the feeling and opposition from neighboring countries. His wrongdoing is obvious to all, Qin said.

As a government leader, Koizumi should come back to the political basis of Sino-Japanese relations as early as possible and take concrete measures to honor his commitment to "reflect on history," Qin said.
