Intel president visits China against AMD
font size

After AMD's promotions on a grand scale in China, Intel president Craig Barrett is readying himself for a most important tour of public relations.

Starting from Dec. 6, Barrett is scheduled to visit Chengdu and Beijing.

It is learned that Barrett will first announce the opening of a chip packaging plant in Chengdu, capital city of southwest China's Sichuan Province and attend the a celebration for Intel educational program in Beijing. He will also be invited to an interview program on CCTV.

Barrett is under severe pressure of public relations in his ongoing tour. Last October, AMD officially set up its headquarters for the greater China zone in Zhongguancun, Beijing. After that, AMD made a surprising decision for global IT circles -- it will transfer the core technologies of X86 chip to China. Sources say it is the most advanced chip know-how the United States ever did to China. For this deal, AMD conquered many difficulties in the United States.

Insider analyzes that a primary intention of AMD is to move itself on the side of China in the competition with Intel.
