Fiji prime minsiter meets senior Chinese official on bilateral ties

Fiji Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase on Tuesday held talks with senior Chinese official Li Guixian on bilateral ties.

Li, vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, spoke highly of smooth development of bilateral ties in recent years.

Li, also head of the Chinese Association for International Understanding, said that China, as always, will continue to promote its friendly ties with Fiji.

He reiterated China's stance on the Taiwan question, saying that it relates to China's core interests and the one-China principle is the political cornerstone of the bilateral ties.

He appreciated Fiji's adherence to the one-China principle.

For his part, Qarase said that Fiji values its relations with China and hopes to expand bilateral cooperation in various fields.

He also highly appreciated China's assistance to Fiji.

He reiterated that it is a widely recognized fact that there is only one China in the world and Fiji will continue to stick to the one-China principle.
