Man. United crash out of champions league
Man. United was knocked out of European Champions League for the first time in a decade, slumping to a 2-1 loss at Benfica on Wednesday night. Paul Scholes scored in the sixth minute, but Geovanni tied the score in the 16th minute and Beto put the Portuguese team ahead in the 34th with a shot that deflected off Scholes and into the goal.

On Dec. 7, 1941, Japanese aerial forces attacked on the U.S. fleet in Hawaii, killed 2,390 soldiers,destroyed more than 200 airplanes and damaged 21 warships, bringing the United States fully into World War II.

54 killed, 22 missing in coal mine blast in N. China
Miners wait for information form their peers in Liuguantun Colliery in Kaiping District of Tangshan, north China's Hebei Province, Dec. 7, 2005. One hundred and eighty-six miners were working underground when the coal mine blast occurred at 3:30 p.m. on Dec. 7. Rescuers have salvaged 110 miners from the exploded mine. Fifty-four workers were died and 22 were still missing.

Guangxi strengthens bird flu control

China's Health Ministry reported on Dec. 6 the first human bird flu case in Guangxi. Local authorities have since taken measures to prevent the further spread.
