Twenty mayors of cities along the Asia-Europe Continental Bridge signed the memorandum on tourism cooperation among cities along the new Silk Road on Dec 7 at the new Asia-Europe Continental Bridge regional economic cooperation conference 2005.
The memorandum is initiated by UNDP's Silk Road Regional Programme and 20 cities along the Asia-Europe Continental Bridge. The representatives agreed that cities along the Silk Road should present the Road as a road that links eastern and western civilization in future city planning.
To rejuvenate the glory of the Silk Road and turn the new Silk Road into a tourism corridor famous home and abroad, the cites will strengthen cooperation to provide more friendly, transparent and efficient services to tourists, investors and enterprises from around the world. The memo also encourages establishment of a human resource sharing mechanism for the cities; it encourages tourism companies if these cities to form cooperative relations and further open their own tourism markets.
More than 300 representatives from countries along the Asia-Europe Continental Bridg attended the conference held in Xuzhou, east China's Jiangsu Province. During the conference, they had in-depth discussion on strengthening cooperation, improving environment for investment, and promoting regional economy and tourism.
