Kuomintang (KMT) Honorary Chairman Lien Chan left Hong Kong for Taipei Sunday afternoon after concluding his five-day visit.
During the visit, Lien was conferred an honorary doctorate by the Chinese University of Hong Kong on Friday and gave a speech on the perspective of Chinese people at the university on Saturday.
In his speech, Lien called on the mainland, Taiwan and Hong Kong to join hands in building a new perspective for the Chinese nation by seeking common ground while reserving differences.
He said he was greatly encouraged by great changes in the mainland and the enormous vigor that Hong Kong held when he returned to the two places after decades of years.
"The Chinese nation is confronted with unprecedented opportunities of development. Well-being and prosperity that the nation has long aspired after will never be a faraway dream," Lien said.
During his stay in Hong Kong, Lien also attended banquets held respectively by Tung Chee-hwa, Vice-Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and Gao Siren, Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
