China has prosecuted and punished nearly 50,000 corrupt officials at various levels in the on-going nationwide anti-corruption drive in the recent two years, said a senior official with the Supreme People's Procuratorate.

The Chinese government and law enforcement organs have made vigorous and continuous efforts in combating corruption, said Wang Zhenchuan, deputy procurator-general of the Supreme People's Procuratorate at the on-going Asia-Europe Prosecutors-General Conference held in Shenzhen, a city in south China's Guangdong province.

Efforts have been redoubled not only in the respect of corruption investigation and prosecution, but also in the aspect of corruption prevention, Wang said, adding that China has formed a comprehensive anti-corruption system involving education, supervision and punishment.

China is now stipulating a law on anti-money laundering and has signed extradition agreements with 23 countries, he said.

In addition, China has signed 71 judicial assistance agreements with 47 countries, Wang added.
