A Chinese democratic party leader urged his party members to make more contributions to the country's next five-year program for social and economic development.
Xu Jialu, chairman of the Central Committee of China Association for Promoting Democracy (CAPD), made the remarks at the 4th plenary meeting of the 11th CAPD Central Committee, which closed in Beijing Monday.
Xu, also vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, the country's top legislature, called on CAPD members to play their roles in the fields of education, culture and publication and offer good proposals for carrying out the country's 11th Five-Year program (2006-2010).
The 11th Five-Year Program for the National Economic and Social Development was adopted at the 5th session of the 16th CPC (Communist Party of China) Central Committee, which closed in October.
This year marks the 60th anniversary of the founding of CAPD. Xu, in his speech, said CAPD has carried forward the fine tradition of the system of multi-party cooperation and political consultation led by the CPC.
Founded in Shanghai on Dec. 30, 1945, CAPD is mainly composed of intellectuals working in the fields of culture, education, publication and science.
