Liang Guanglie, chief of general staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), held talks with Commander of the Fijian Armed Forces Frank Bainimarama in Beijing Tuesday.

Since China and Fiji established diplomatic ties 30 years ago, Liang said, the two countries have promoted mutual political trust and economic benefits.

In dealing with international affairs, the two countries adhere to the UN charter and to the basic norms of international relations, which contributes to regional and world peace, stability and development, Liang said.

China attaches importance to its relations with the Fijian Armed Forces, Liang said, adding that China takes a positive attitude towards the development of relations between the two armed forces.

Liang expressed China's willingness to join hands with Fiji to step up friendly cooperation.

He briefed Bainimarama on China's principled stance on the Taiwan question.

Bainimarama voiced appreciation for China's consistent support, saying that the ties between the two armed forces have grown smoothly.

He hoped that the friendly cooperation between the two armed forces can maintain good momentum.

The Fijian government and armed forces will continue to abide by the one-China policy, Bainimarama said.

Bainimarama arrived here on Sunday for an official goodwill visit to China at the invitation of Liang.
