Japan shouldn't take hostile policy towards China: party leader
font size

Japan should not take a hostile policy towards China, said Seiji Maehara, leader of Japan's largest opposition Democratic Party, in Beijing Tuesday.

Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Dai Bingguo and Maehara had a candid and in-depth exchange of views on relevant issues in Sino-Japanese relations Tuesday in the Chinese capital, according to the Chinese Foreign Ministry.

Dai reiterated the stance and claim of the Chinese government on improving and developing Sino-Japanese ties. He hopes the Democratic Party of Japan and Maehara can play a positive role in maintaining and promoting the China-Japan friendship.

Maehara said he welcomes China's development. Japan and China should enhance dialogue and cooperation in a wide range of fields, and promote peaceful coexistence and common prosperity.

"This not only meets the fundamental interests of both sides but also benefits Asia and the whole world," he said.

"My party and I are willing to make positive efforts in improving and developing Japan-China relations," he said.
