Census: industrial corporations' profit totals USD161 billion in 2004The total profit of China's industrial corporations amounted to 1,306.54 billion yuan (161 billion US dollars) in 2004, according to the result of the country's first national economic census, which was released here on Wednesday by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS). The census showed that the profit of the mining industry accounted for 19.6 percent of the total, while that of the manufacturing industry, 73.1 percent. The profit of the power, heat and water production and supply industry made up 7.3 percent of the total. The census also revealed nine industries' profit exceeded 50 billion yuan (around 6.2 billion dollars), including petroleum and natural gas extraction, smelting and pressing of ferrous metals, power and heat production and supply, mining and dressing, communication equipment, computers and other machinery. Besides, the business income of the corporate bodies came to 21,844.28 billion yuan (2,693 billion dollars) last year, with the mining industry accounting for 5.6 percent of the total; and the manufacturing industry, 86.8 percent; the power, heat and water production and supply, 7.6 percent. The business income of the industrial corporations in the eastern, central and western parts of China made up 72.5 percent, 16.8 percent and 10.7 percent of the total respectively, said the census. Guangdong, Jiangsu, Shandong, Zhejiang and Shanghai top the list in terms of the business income. Meanwhile, the business income of individual enterprises totaled 2,531.6 billion yuan last year, the NBS data showed.
