The parliaments of China and Indonesia have maintained good cooperative relations that will help deepen understanding, enhance mutual trust and promote bilateral relations between the two countries and two peoples, the top legislator of China said in Beijing Wednesday.

Wu Bangguo, chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress (NPC), said both parliaments are playing an important role in the political life of their own countries.

Wu made the remarks when meeting with Agung Laksono, speaker of the House of Representatives of Indonesia. Agung is paying an official goodwill visit to China from December 10 to 16.

Wu said the NPC is ready to strengthen communications between the parliaments of both countries in such dimensions as parliamentary leaders, friendship groups and specialized committees. He said the two parliaments should increase exchanges in such areas as legislation and supervision.

Wu made a positive comment on the sound development of bilateral relations. He said this year marks the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Indonesia. Both Chinese President Hu Jintao and Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono have exchanged visits to the each other's countries this year. The heads of state have jointly announced the establishment of a strategic partnership between the two countries. These moves have elevated bilateral relations to a historical high, Wu said.

China is ready to join efforts with Indonesia to implement the strategic consensus that the heads of state of both countries reached, Wu said. He expressed willingness to push forward bilateral exchanges and cooperation in all fields in a comprehensive way so as to let China and Indonesia be good neighbors, good friends and good partners forever.

Agung said the Indonesian parliament places great importance on developing friendly relations with China. He expressed the wish that the current visit of the parliamentary delegation, which consists members of all political groups in the House, would further expand and deepen multi-level exchanges and cooperation with the NPC and help promote bilateral relations.

He said the Indonesian parliament is willing to strengthen coordination with the NPC within international parliamentary organizations. He hopes the two sides will jointly implement the strategic agreement reached by the heads of state of both countries so as to bring benefits to the people.

Agung reiterated the Indonesian parliament's stance on adhering to the one-China policy and its support to the early reunification of China.
