US President George W. Bush accepted responsibility on Wednesday for launching the Iraq war based on flawed intelligence, but insisted that it was still the right decision to remove Saddam Hussein from power.
"It is true that much of the intelligence turned out to be wrong. As president, I am responsible for the decision to go into Iraq," Bush said in a speech at the Woodrow Wilson Center in Washington.
"And I'm also responsible for fixing what went wrong by reforming our intelligence capabilities. And we're doing just that, " Bush said.
The Bush administration launched the Iraq war in 2003 on claims that the Saddam Hussein regime had weapons of mass destruction and had ties with the al Qaeda, but none of the claims have been proved correct.
