President George W. Bush will address the United States about Iraq Sunday evening, White House spokesman Scott McClellan said on Friday.
"The Iraqi people have just concluded a historic election and we now are entering a critical period for our mission in Iraq," McClellan said.
"The president will talk about the importance of our mission and the way forward in 2006," he said.
Bush's address comes after the landmark parliamentary elections in Iraq on Thursday.
Bush has recently made four speeches on Iraq's political, military and economic reconstruction process in order to clarify his administration's Iraq policy and win public support for the Iraq mission, as more and more Americans disapprove his Iraq policy and Bush's approval ratings have fallen to record lows.
Bush's speeches have also aimed to counterattack the Congress Democrats who have blasted Bush's Iraq policy and called for an early withdrawal of U.S. troops in Iraq.
