S.Koreans continue to stage anti-WTO demonstrations in HK
font size

Over 200 South Korean farmers went to the American Consulate General and the South Korea Consulate General in Hong Kong Friday afternoon, demanding immediate end to the ongoing Sixth Ministerial Meeting of the World Trade Organization (WTO).

They also demanded the United States not interfere in the peace cause of the Korean Peninsula.

When they arrived at the US Consulate General, they held a rally outside the building. They chanted anti-WTO slogans and throwing eggs onto the wall of the building.

They also painted "Down with WTO" and some other slogans on the wall of the building. Six demonstrators had their heads shaved as a sign for protest.

Demonstrators clashed with police while the former tried to destroy the English letters on the name wall in front of the consulate general and the latter stopped them from doing so.

In another development, dozens of South Korean farmers, mainly women, went to the South Korean Consulate General.

They held anti-WTO banners and chanted slogans.

They sat outside the consulate general, singing South Korean songs, stressing the importance of rice to farmers and opposing the United States and the European Union for their dumping of rice to South Korea.

They also protested against the South Korean government's turning deaf ear to their demand.

Later on, some demonstrators once crossed the Police cordon line and went into the Far East Financial Center where the South Korean Consulate General is located, but failed to find the office of the consulate general.
