Draft WTO ministerial declaration circulated before end of conference
font size

A draft declaration of the Sixth Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization (WTO) was circulated Saturday in Hong Kong, suggesting target date of 2010 to end export subsidies.

The draft is subject to further revision before the conference ends on Sunday.

The draft also calls for rich nations to end export subsidies for cotton by 2006, but fails to set specific date for establishing a formula for cutting tariffs and subsidies on agricultural and industrial trade.

It also fails to suggest a date for completion of negotiations on service industries.

The current draft contains 57 paragraphs, as against 53 in the Dec. 7 draft.
