Namibian President visits SW China

Namibian President Hifikepunye Pohamba arrived in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality Sunday.

At his meeting with Chongqing Mayor Wang Hongju Sunday evening, Pohamba said that Namibia and China are "old friends", adding that friendship between the two countries could be dated back to the 1960s.

He said the Namibian people are always grateful for China's huge material and spiritual support to their fighting for freedom and independence.

Pohamba hoped Chongqing, the largest city along the upper stream of the Yangtze River, and Katima Molilo, a northern city on Zambezi in Namibia could become "sister-cities" in the future.

Wang said Chongqing is happy to strengthen friendly cooperation and exchanges with cities in Namibia.

Wang also briefed the guest about Chongqing's development in recent years and local governmental measures in addressing issues related to rural areas, services and education.

Pohamba arrived in Chongqing from China's southernmost Hainan Province Sunday morning. He visited a key motorcycle company in Chongqing.

Pohamba's next stop will be Beijing, where he is expected to meet top Chinese officials.
