India's trade with China has registered a hike of 521 percent between 2000 and 2005. China is expected to rise as India's leading trade partner, The Financial Express reported in New Delhi Monday.
The paper quoted a study on Indo-China trade, conducted by Assocham, as saying that India's total trade with China stood at 1.8 billion US dollars in 1999-2000, and shot up to 11.35 billion US dollars in 2005.
During the same period, India's trade with the United States rose from 11.9 billion US dollars to 19.5 billion US dollars.
Quoting Assocham president Anil K. Agarwal, the Financial Express attributed the increase in trade with China to China's positive movement in trade in international market.
The study also suggests that China has an advantage over the world in manufacturing low-cost goods and has a competitive edge in mass manufacturing.
