Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang said here Monday that China hopes the parliamentary elections of Iraq will be conducive to the promotion of its reconstruction process.

When asked to comment on Iraq's parliamentary elections held on Dec. 15, Qin said the elections are one of the major events in Iraq's political reconstruction.

"China welcomes the parliamentary elections in Iraq," Qin said, adding that China hopes the elections will contribute to Iraq's stability and people's unity and to the reconstruction process of the country.
