The revised tally as announced by the Tanzania National Electoral Commission on Tuesday showed that the president-elect of the united republic had more votes than had been originally tallied.
Following are the revised tallies for each of the 10 presidential candidates as announced by Justice Lewis Makame, chairman of the national electoral body (tabulated number of votes, percentage of total valid votes cast, candidates and political parties they represent):
1. 9,123,952 (80.28 percent), Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete of Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM);
2. 1,327,125 (11.68 percent), Ibrahim Haruna Lipumba of Civic United Front (CUF);
3. 668,756 (5.88 percent), Freeman Aikaeli Mbowe of Chama Cha Demokrasia na Maendeleo (CHADEMA);
4. 84,901 (0.75 percent), Augustine Mrema of Tanzania Labor Party (TLP);
5. 55,819 (0.49 percent), Mvungi Edmund Sengondo of National Convention for Construction and Reform (NCCR-Mageuzi);
6. 31,083 (0.27 percent), Christopher Mchungali Mtikila of Democratic Party (DP);
7. 21,574 (0.19 percent), Emmanuel John Makaidi of National League for Democracy (NLD);
8. 18,783 (0.17 percent), Madam Anna Claudia Senkoro of Progress Party of Tanzania (PPT-Maendeleo);
9. 17,070 (0.15 percent), Leonard Kanangwe Shayo of Chama Cha Demokrasia (Makini);
10. 16,414 (0.14 percent), Paul Henry Kyara of Sauti ya Umma ( SAU).
The National Electoral Commission also revised the figures for the total registered voters, the total valid votes cast last Wednesday and the total spoilt votes.
Total registered voters for the 2005 general elections: 16,401, 694;
Total votes cast on Wednesday last week: 11,875,927;
Turn-out rate: 72.40 percent;
Total valid votes: 11,365,477 (95.7 percent)
Total spoilt votes: 510,450 (4.3 percent).
