font size

The Macao media hailed the special administrative region's great achievements in the economic and social development Tuesday on the sixth anniversary of its return to the motherland.

The leading local Chinese newspaper Macao Daily News said in its commentary that the special administrative region has seen a steady economic development trend since it returned to the motherland in 1999.

The great achievements have been secured by the support from the central government, the harmonious social order in the region and the concerted efforts made by all the Macao citizens, said the commentary.

Taichung, another top Chinese newspaper, said in an article that Macao's success is due to the implementation of the principle of "one country, two systems."

The newspaper urged the Macao people to maintain their support to the government of the Macao Special Administrative Region in the economic development.

Macao Post Daily, the sole English newspaper in the city, predicted in its editorial that the development of Macao will proceed smoothly.

The editorial said the sixth anniversary of the establishment of the special administrative region implies a promising future for the region, as "six" is dubbed a lucky number in the Chinese culture.

It hailed that over the past six years, Macao has witnessed spectacular economic growth, political stability and social progress.

The region will surely keep the pace, it added.
