Edmund Ho Hau Wah, chief executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR), eulogized the principle of "one country, two systems" here on Tuesday afternoon.
Ho told a cocktail reception marking the sixth anniversary of the establishment of the MSAR that since the region returned to the Chinese motherland in 1999, the guideline of "one country, two systems" has advanced with "great vigor."
The chief executive said thanks to the implementation of the principle, the MSAR has been able to demonstrate its unique inherent advantages, grasp valuable development opportunities and stride forward steadily with gradual and encouraging success.
Macao has started to progress into a new era in its history, the official noted.
He said the overall development trend is encouraging in Macao, as the investment sentiment is strong and achievements in the areas of education, science, technology and culture recognizable.
Macao, safeguarded by the Basic Law and with the strong support of the motherland, is confident to build a unique and sophisticated society, Ho said.
Officials of the MSAR government and the offices of the central government in Macao as well as hundreds of people from all walks of the social life attended the cocktail reception.
