Chinese electronics goods sell hot in Vietnam
font size

Chinese electronics and electrical appliances are selling very well in Vietnam's northern provinces, local newspaper Youth reported Thursday.

More and more Vietnamese people, in the last weeks of this year, have been going to markets in the provinces bordering China like Quang Ninh to buy such Chinese goods as VCD and DVD players, magnetic cookers, and fans which blow hot air.

Hot air fans are selling like hot cakes, since this winter is forecast to be colder. In Quang Ninh, the fan is priced 350,000 Vietnamese dong (VND) (22 US dollar), compared with 550,000 VND ( 34.6 dollars) for a similar South Korean product.

Vietnam is expected to see stronger flows of foreign electronics goods from January 1, 2006 when their import taxes, under regional tariff reduction roadmaps, are to decrease to 0-5 percent from current 15-30 percent.

Foreign products, originating mainly from Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia, such as large- screen TV sets, DVD players, fridges, air-conditioners, washing machines and microwave ovens are also likely to sell well in Vietnam next year, the report said.
