China will step up cooperation with the international community on energy issue, including the surge of oil price, said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang in Beijing Thursday.

"China, as both a energy producer and consumer, is always pursuing international cooperation in tackling energy issue based on equality and mutual benefits," said Qin in response to a question on how China looks at the oil price surge.

The surge of oil price in the international market has affected the economic growth of the world economy, developing countries in particular, since 2004, said Chinese President Hu Jintao at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) CEO Summit in Busan, the Republic of Korea.

"The most critical thing is for all countries to work together for stability of the world energy market, and to fuel the sustained growth of the world economy with sufficient, safe, economical and clean energy resources," the president said.
