MC6 shows HK civil service's efficiency: HK official

The success of the WTO Sixth Ministerial Conference has reinforced Hong Kong's image in the international arena as Asia's World City and enhanced the city's civil service's reputation as one of the most efficient in the world, Hong Kong Secretary for the Civil Service Joseph Wong said on Saturday.

In his letter to all civil servants on Saturday, Wong said that throughout the conference, Police showed diligence and professionalism in maintaining law and order and in taking measured and robust action against the sometimes violent protesters.

"Our world-class police force has demonstrated once again their outstanding performance in handling a crisis situation. At the same time, thousands of civil service colleagues from other bureaus and departments also worked tirelessly round the clock in support of the conference.

"Planning for this mammoth exercise started many months ago and involved many bureaus and departments also worked tirelessly round the clock in support of the conference."

He said, "their contribution was instrumental to the success of the conference. I would like to express my deepest appreciation to all of them."

"I am sure our civil service will continue with the fine tradition of serving the community with dedication and commitment, " he added.

Hong Kong hosted the MC6 between Dec. 13 and 18, about 11,000 delegates, non-government organization representatives and correspondents attended the conference.
