A U.S. soldier died on Saturday of wounds sustained from an earlier insurgent attack in northern Iraq, according to the U.S. military.
The U.S. soldier, assigned to the 205th Military Intelligence Brigade, was wounded in a rocket-propelled grenade attack targeting a U.S. patrol near the northern Iraqi town of Hawijah, the military said in a statement, without revealing further details.
The death has brought to more than 2,160 the number of US military personnel who have died in Iraq since the US-led invasion in March 2003.
