The Central Committee of Communist Party of China (CPC) appointed four provincial Party secretaries on Saturday.

Qian Yunlu, 61, the former Party secretary of southwestern Guizhou Province, took the place of Song Fatang, becoming the Party secretary of Heilongjiang Province in Northeast China.

Shi Zongyuan, 59, who had served as the nation's top press and publication officer since October 2000, took Qian's former post.

Fifty-two-year-old Zhang Chunxian was the nation's communications minister before his new appointment as the Party secretary of Central China's Hunan Province.

And Wang Yang, 50, who became deputy secretary-general of the State Council two years ago, was appointed the Party secretary of Chongqing Municipality in Southwest China.

These appointments are considered the biggest reshuffle of key local Party posts this year.

Speaking at a meeting after taking office on Saturday, Qian said he felt a lot of pressure on his shoulders.

"I'm ready to listen to the public's demands in the province, I want to devote myself to improving the lives of the people," Qian said.

Zhang expressed confidence in his new post in Hunan Province.

He vowed to be a responsible Party secretary, saying that he will live up to the expectations of the CPC Central Committee as well as the people of the province.

"I hope I can contribute to economic growth, improve living standards of the people and help to maintain a harmonious society in the province," Zhang said.
