Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Tianjin, Dalian, Nanjing, Hangzhou, Shenyang, Harbin are rated the top 10 cities in China, according to the ranking of top 100 Chinese cities released by the National Bureau of Statistics.
78 Chinese cities have GDP over 20 billion yuan, and 23 of them report a GDP of over 100 billion yuan, five more than in 2004. They are Beiijng, Tianjin, Shenyang, Dalian, Changchun, Harbin, Daqing, Shanghai, Nanjing, Wuxi, Suzhou, Hangzhou, Ningbo, Jinan, Qingdao, Zibo, Wuhan, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Foshan, Dongguan, Chongqing and Chengdu.
The population of the top 100 cities accounts for 56.7 percent of that in cites of prefecture-level or above; their area amounts for 35.5 percent, GDP represents 80.6 percent, investment in fixed assets accounts for 80.1 percent, professionals accounts for 77.9 percent. Of the top 100 cities, 61 are in eastern and coastal regions, 22 in central China, and 17 in the west. 53 of them are located in the Yangtze River Delta, the Pearl River Delta and the coastal regions of Bohai Sea.
